Ali Moghadas
Short Biography
Ali Moghadas was born in Iran, Tehran. He was sent to United States with a student visa at eight years of age, prior to the Iranian revolution and was raised by close family members. At the age of ten Mr. Moghadas was introduced to the Olympic sport of Judo. After becoming an American Citizen in 1994 he went on to receive national and international recognitions representing United States in Judo, which lead him to the 2000 Olympic Trials. Upon falling short to make the 2000 Olympic Judo Team, Mr. Moghadas decided to step away from competition and coaching to redirect his life toward a new career and path in life.
As son of an award winning Iranian cinematographer, Iraj Sadeghpoor Moghadas, Ali Moghadas stepped behind the camera with a naturally rooted connection to film and visual story telling. He was given a great opportunity by 44 Blue productions very early in his career and was able to shoot an award winning feature documentary. WIDE OPEN: INSIDE THE WORLD OF HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL aired on A&E in 2001. This documentary film won the Aurora and Telly award for 44 Blue Productions, helping to launch Mr. Moghadas’ career in the television industry.
Mr. Moghadas has over eight years of shooting experience. He has shot for networks such as FOX, History Channel, Discovery Channel, TLC, MSNBC, A&E, MTV, and much more. In 2004, Mr. Moghadas decided to take further steps to advance his career. He felt further education was necessary for success in the narrative world of film.
Recently, Mr. Moghadas graduated from American Film Institute with a Masters in Cinematography. He was excepted along with 28 other students from around the world, in 2005. His graduating thesis film, GREEN received the Student Panavision grant and was nominated from AFI for best cinematography to the 2008 ASC Student Awards. "Green" was the recipient of the Honorable Mention Award by the American Society of Cinematographers.
Today, Mr. Moghadas continues to teach Judo part time to young adults and kids at Sawtelle Dojo, a local Judo club in Santa Monica. He has helped with the development of many young future community leaders through the sport of Judo. Mr. Moghadas hopes that someday he will be able to have the same positive effect on society through the magic and power of visual storytelling.
