Biography
Soon Zhan Hui was born in Singapore on March, 16th in 1987. Back in 2002, Soon Zhan Hui was only 15 years old when he started working part time in Burger King. He was later inspired by a colleague to pursue a future career in Digital Media, one that would also include Video Production. He saw this as an extension of his lifelong love for storytelling.
Zhan Hui has directed numerous short films since 2008 that have screened as part of the 22nd and 23rd Singapore International Short Film Festival as well as the FIRST Singapore Short Film Awards in the Singapore Art Museum and the Arts House respectively. In 2009, he won the Best Anti-Piracy Trailer award with a provoking piece about the future of cinema, which has since been broadcasted in movie theatres island-wide. In 2010, his short film ‘Mother’ won the Crowbar Bronze Award for Original Soundtrack while ‘Colors of Life’ snagged him the Silver Award in the Toshiba Creative Video Challenge 2011. His most recent short film, ‘The Colored Chair’, a personal project inspired by his father, was an Official Selection for the ITSA Film Festival in California (2011).
