Biography
Leo Curbelo graduated from St. John’s University in New York City with a degree in Communications. He studied film under C.K. Bardosh [Forced March] & made his first short “How To Rip Off Your Local Dominitrix.” His first broadcast experience was producing & starring in segments for Univision’s “Lente Loco.” Leo was Graphic Director for La Tea Theater in lower Manhattan, run by actor Nelson Landrieu [The Interpreter] and produced the play “Inhabitants in the end of times” starring Mateo Gómez [CHE.]
Studied digital editing at The Edit Center under Alan Oxman [Happiness] & Affonso Gonçalves [Winter's Bone.] Here he assisted on feature films [The Mudge Boy] & documentaries [PBS’ P.O.V.] Editing credits include MTV, SpikeTV, Oxygen, ESPN, LifeTime, Food Network, and Nickelodeon. He co-edited the documentary “Splitting Hairs”, an official selection to Silverdocs. He co-produced the feature “Black Site” which played in various human rights film festivals and is currently editing the documentary “Bigger.” Leo has written, produced, directed, and edited several short films that were officially selected to national and international film festivals. His latest short film, “Utopia Lies at the Horizon”, recently won the Bronze Award at the Box[ur]shorts film festival
