CocoRosie is a group of North American folk psyche formed in 2003, built around the duo sisters Bianca ("Coco") and Sierra ('Rosie') Casady, who make music that combines singing, gospel and pop lo-fi. Very poetic, their world is made of sounds of water, pans and toys for children. Sierra plays the guitar, flute, harp and sings. Bianca is a percussionist, sings and is very rarely the beatbox. Unclassifiable debut album, The House of my dream, recorded in a maid's room in Montmartre, and in which are used to the sounds of the environment - the album was recorded in their bathroom because it brought a better sound than other parts (interview on Dailymotion) - caused a sensation with its soft dreamlike strangeness, and obtained a great success of esteem. The second album, Noah's Ark, released in 2005, is made with the help of talented friends of the new indie-pop-rock. Thus, Antony Hegarty (of Antony and the Johnsons) is a remarkable appearance on the title Beautiful Boyz. We also note the presence of Devendra Banhart on the title Brazilian Sun, new leader of a current new-old-folk. There is also a great interpretation of French rapper Spleen Bears on the song. For its part, Sierra Casady opens a parenthesis to this sisterly collaboration in 2006, creating the band Metallic Falcons accompanied Matteah including Baim (Voodoo-Label boss of Eros). A night with Harvey. Harvey Bassett - more (un) known as Dj Harvey - is, in its little bearded surfer on the back, one of the most influential musical of the last twenty years. If we talk often than other djs djs will see religiously ... and Harvey is their sponsor at all. The youngest of us (including myself) know him for his legendary Sarcastic Disco parties, a kind of roving and random soundsystem, from time to time, there is a shed in the industrial Downtown LA. An audience composed of improbable gay Latinos, hipsters of musically cultured of record collectors and unshaven girls with suggestive hip movements, with Harvey at the helm for a mix of at least 9-10am. Some will tell you that Harvey has no genre, it is simply the most eclectic dj that is, they will not go wrong but still next to them. Harvey is so special that it probably can not even get into the (non) category of eclecticism, it is no doubt a genre by itself. Pioneer in his garage / disco / house in Europe, Italian archaeologist cosmic sound 10 years before anyone else, composer-performer of psychedelic punk rock, there is not a style with which Dj Harvey has not subtly juggled. When we see one of his performances, it does not play a particular music ... we just see Harvey. After beginning his musical education at Cambridge, becoming, at 13, the drummer of punk band Ersatz (a favorite of John Peel), it quickly becomes an iconic dj of the English stage, thanks to his evenings at the Zap Club Brighton, whose afters on the beach (Black Rock) tend to last for nearly 48 hours. In 1991 residing in Gardening Club in London and the Ministry Of Sound, he was the first dj to invite artists like Larry Levan and François Kevorian still relatively unknown in Europe. This is but a warm-up career for Harvey, probably without knowing it, refines the basis of his legend. He launched his label in 1995, Black Cock Records, on which it will be the first to leave the Re-Edits, cut with scissors to the same bands. Rediscovered in the last 5 years, the original Black Cocks now traded against a small fortune on Ebay. In 2005 he set up the group Map Of Africa (with Thomas Bullock of Rub'N'Tug and a member of ARE Weapons) on the sur-hip New York label Whatever We Want, which he co-founded alongside Carlos Arias. And so on ... Dj eminently postmodern armed with his bottle of Jack Daniels, he came to us through Place de la Madeleine, for the first time in Paris long ago. These freezes happens in New York, London, Brussels, and this wednesday march 19th, in Paris at gare de Lyon. It was designed to start at 10.42 pm and the freeze supposed to last for 90seconds. On the 3rd March, Parisian journalist Raphael Beaugrand took off on his bicycle with an aim to reach Hiroshima by 15th January 2011. Here he tells us why. On the project More than sixty years ago, war was raging in my native France. The atrocities of the Second World War follow different generations. Memories die with people and the consequences of conflict fade into oblivion. However, since 1945, blood is still shed in Eurasia. Armed combats, internal rivalries or hostilities from neighboring countries have hit entire populations. From Bosnia to Japan, the road is riddled with conflicts past, present and future. Between Srebrenica and Hiroshima, two cities notorious for the atrocities of war, several countries have witnessed deadly episodes in their history. Other countries live in fear of arms returning. On this road that stretches from Paris to his final destination, covered by Beaugrand on a bicycle, there still lives an unaccounted number of victims of genocide, wars of independence, frozen conflicts, terrorist acts or armed repression. Absorbing their daily lives and collecting their stories, Beaugrande will listen to the people as they tell of their memories, as well as hopes and dreams for the future. Hosted by locals, sitting at a restaurant table or in an office, Beaugrand wishes to illustrate dark pages of history and show that despite losses and sorrows, life has revived in the hope of new, happier days ahead. The goal Journalist since 2007 for the web edition of Le Point weekly newspaper, I have been keen on analyzing and understanding the world. Passionate about cycling and fond of traveling, I have previously had the good fortune of spending several months on the roads of Eurasia. I spent a year in China and several weeks at a time in India, Vietnam, Cambodia and the countries that constituted the former socialist republic of Yugoslavia, and was able to deepen my understanding of the conflicts that these areas have encountered. Combining my thirst for discovery with my interest in the history of Eurasian countries, I initiated this project of cycling through conflict zones two years ago. The intention was to find out how life has re-emerged for the victims, what their memories of the conflict are, -and what their hopes are today. All have lost a relative, have seen adverse army marching under their eyes, have had to escape their countries or live in fear of repression. “39th Parallel” is a collection of encounters capturing victims’ daily lives and showing their new lives and ongoing struggle. It will be an antology of testimonies from people of Eurasia. From the mountains of the Balkans and the Black sea shore, via South Caucasus, Caspian Sea shores, Kazakhs plains, Kyrgyzstan mountains, desert of Taclamacan, Korean peninsula or Japanese archipelago, a whole continent will be explored from West to East. Capturing these moments every day, the reportage is a picture of its inhabitants. A picture of people met, countries traveled and landscapes explored. Filming along the way I will put footage online as I proceed, allowing me to share my adventure with the readers. The map On the 3rd of March, leaving from Paris, my well-equipped bicycle will depart for the roads of Eurasia. A journalistic adventure, physical challenge and geographical discovery; Paris - Hiroshima will not be a speedy trip.
