And if that wasn't strange enough he told me then how he one day failed to find it. He ended up looking for it for hours and hours like a squirrel (until he finally spotted the plastic bag). Last winter on my yearly visit to Germany I got bored. I decided I've to shoot something. My dad had a Canon Powershot with video function and was willing to play himself. Hence, we had a story, a camera and the main actor. Two days we ventured out into the forest to shoot. I never lasted longer than two hours. In fact the first day, it was about -17 C, I think I got frostbite... not severe, but my toes were blue! But it was worth it. Seeing my dad playing himself I find the story hilarious. To be honest, I'm not sure if others will, too... but in this case it doesn't matter. The movie didn't cost a cent and my dad will stay in my memory forever. Looking at the amount of time we probably would have to invest to draw a professional storyboard... we just decided to do a mock-up instead. (Took us about 5hours - shoot, edit and visuals. Alternatively we could have hired a proper storyboard artist, but that had cut into our extremely low budget.) The client, who was a bit nervous upfront, relaxed after seeing the mock-up and practically didn't interfere at all in the shoot. Yay! Client was happy, so were we. The Berlinale Talent Campus #6: Out of thousands of applicants Juliane was chosen as participant for the six-day creative summit for up-and-coming Filmmakers (9th – 14th Feb. 08). Her project “It could happen to you”, based on a spam email which circulated in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, was selected for production during the Hands-on Training Garage Studio. Preproduction was done online. For shooting and post the crew had 24 hours. “It could happen to you” was the second short film to come out of the Garage Studio, shot on Monday, the 11th February. Shooting start 8am, delivery of the final film on Tuesday morning 8am. With crew members and Campus participants Rachel Rath, Leonard Lehmann, William Whitwham, and Juan Miguel Salas Rodriguez. We started Killerbus in 2002, graduated with the film in 2003, but didn't finish it until 2004. I was producer and screenwriter. It was the toughest shoot I've ever been on. However, in Asia this type of moneylenders is quite common. They lend money to people who are unable to obtain loans from banks or other legal sources, mostly targeting habitual gamblers. They charge a very high interest rate (about 40% per month) and frequently threaten violence towards those who fail to pay in time using a multitude of tactics. There have been cases where borrowers were beaten or had their property damaged or destroyed. Occasionally moneylenders abducted or even killed their victims.
