"Lutz Heckelmann and his beer" is a tribute to my dad. My dad is a weirdo. I remember one day he proudly told me about his habit to hide his beer in the forest (to avoid drinking it all at once). And if that wasn't strange enough he told me then how he one day failed to find it. He ended up looking for it for hours and hours like a squirrel (until he finally spotted the plastic bag). Last winter on my yearly visit to Germany I got bored. I decided I've to shoot something. My dad had a Canon Powershot with video function and was willing to play himself. Hence, we had a story, a camera and the main actor. Two days we ventured out into the forest to shoot. I never lasted longer than two hours. In fact the first day, it was about -17 C, I think I got frostbite... not severe, but my toes were blue! But it was worth it. Seeing my dad playing himself I find the story hilarious. To be honest, I'm not sure if others will, too... but in this case it doesn't matter. The movie didn't cost a cent and my dad will stay in my memory forever. They are captured by moon-men, escape, and return to the earth. The very first fantasy-science fiction film! The motion picture was invented by the Lumiere Brothers and their first films to be shown were released in Paris in 1895. A magician by the name of Georges Melies happened to view these films at one of their shows and he was so impressed that a few months later he got his own motion picture camera and studio and in 1896 he began making short films. All of Georges Melies films were all to do with magic and changing from one scene to the next and trick photography and special effects. In his film career from 1896 to 1914, Melies directed over 400 films and the most famous of all his films was the 1902 film A Trip to the Moon. The film only runs between 12 to 14 minutes (depending on frames per second, usually it's projected at 16 frames per second) but it is a delightful treat in it's short running time. It was of course the famous story "Le Voyage dans la Lune" by Jules Verne and it was fantasy. A Trip to The Moon has a group of explorers planning to go to the moon and shortly after, they make a rocket and shoot it out of a big gun and then it lands in the moon's eye. After the explorers discover lots of supernatural effects on the moon, they are then encountered by an alien tribe and the explorers get tied down by the tribe. Jolie, who advocates on behalf of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), commended the outpouring of generosity from the Tunisian people, saying it is a sign of the openness sweeping across the region. Tunisia has received more than half of the outflow from Libya, according to UNHCR, which reports that at least 400,000 people have escaped the violence in the last month alone. The neighbouring countries of Egypt, Niger, Algeria, Chad and Sudan have also taken in people fleeing the fighting that has erupted between pro- and anti-Government supporters. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported today that the flash appeal for Libya has been updated from $160 million to 310.8 million dollars. The first appeal had received 113 million dollars, or 70 percent, in funding. OCHA said it is estimated that over 1.5 million people may be affected by the conflict and require some form of humanitarian assistance. During Jolie’s visit, the Jolie-Pitt Foundation has covered the costs for a flight of 177 persons to return to their countries of origin and bought an ambulance to help support Tunisian efforts on the border to assist the injured arriving from Libya. On 29 July, the UN appealed for a further US$1.4 billion to bolster the ongoing response to the regional crisis, bringing the total funds required for the rest of the year to $2.48 billion.
