Croatia Fruit

Independent Films, Technology, Travel

As Croatia and hopefully other states of Southeast Europe move toward European Union membership will the region become recognized as an agricultural center for the European family.

Farmers in Croatia are using nuclear technology to tackle the Mediterranean fruit fly, a common pest that poses a serious threat to the country's lucrative fruit industry. The technique, also known as "birth control for insects", suppresses populations by breeding large numbers of males that are sterilized through radiation.
