Dev Patel Talks About “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel”

Dev Patel (“Slumdog Millionaire,” “The Last Airbender”) returns to the big screen in the excellent movie “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.” He plays Sonny, the owner of the Marigold Hotel. Patel proved that he has comedic chops and he gained the respect of his talented co-stars such as Dame Judi Dench, Bill Nighy, Maggie Smith, and Tom Wilkinson.

Directed by John Madden (“Shakespeare in Love,” “The Debt”), and written by Ol Parker from the book “These Foolish Things” by Deborah Moggach, “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel” is currently sitting at No. 6 at the Top 10 Box-Office Films. And it’s quite miraculous that at only 300 + theaters, the film has amassed $10.2 million. Moviegoers are falling in love with the film.

In this interview, Patel and I talked about:

*** Why viewers are responding positively to the film
*** What attracted him to the character Sonny?
*** Dench has proclaimed that Dev is a “born comedian” and that the actor has bewitched the cast. How did he bewitch them?
*** Madden said Dev is a “spectacular talent” and a “comic natural.” How was it working with the director?

Have fun!
