Drop Off Movie Preview

A drug lord battles to extricate himself from the powerful addiction of the drug trade.

WILLIAM BAILEY’s business centers around one key element – a successful “drop off.” The final drop off is to come when he promises his son “one last drop and an escape to freedom.” Unfortunately, when William’s son discovers that the deal is a set up and attempts to warn his father the boy pays with his life. This renders William a man possessed, possessed by the most powerful force any father can face - the drive to avenge the death of his only son.

Now, William is the caretaker of an ocean front park – the perfect location to run his drug business and set the stage for his revenge against the cartel. However, just when William’s purpose has never seemed clearer, fate deals him another card. A young man named JOSEPH enters his life. This summer student possesses uncanny similarities to his own son, and William’s anguished mission is no longer crystal clear.

Where William once sought only to avenge the death of his son, he now seeks a more karmic vengeance. William wrestles imploding and exploding emotions as he struggles to save Joseph from the lure of the “drop off” and the vice-like grip of the drug world.

As William battles for survival and to differentiate friend from foe all is not as it would seem. His most obvious and formidable rivals are the “French Gang.” This group of brothers, led by JACQUES and ANDRE sense William’s weakness and construct plans to extinguish his domination of the island’s drug business.

KATHY, an undercover cop, enters William’s world with a defined purpose. However, as she and William become closer she discovers a man far more complex and compelling than the hardened drug lord she imagined.

William’s own gang members, recognizing his altered focus become scared and are forced to choose between loyalty and betrayal, survival or extinction. As the gang feels ever more threatened each member must choose his own course of action.

William is a man of passion – driven and tormented by his past and that which makes us all human – his heart. William’s ultimate quest for justice and inner journey define DROP OFF as a rare hybrid – an action piece with emotion.

Enter a new era of land barons and experience a world dominated by fields of marijuana, raiders, undercover cops, gang rebellion, betrayal and revenge - a world where each “drop off” is the hit that heightens the addiction.

Full movie is in pre-production seeking further financing in 10 million budget range.

Script of scenes:

Intro song - WATER by Michelle Emmanuel.

V.O.
Darkness cloaks the drug trade but with the flicker of the smallest light, you realize all is not what it seems.

Each completed drop off was the hit that heightened my addiction.

MATTHEW (OS): It's a setup get out!

Until my addiction cost my son his life and me, mine. Then my life was entirely driven by revenge till the day my son found a way to come back to me. Now my mission, is twofold.

WILLIAM: Hi Joseph, I'm Bill Bailey.

EXT. BEACH - DAY

Monroe plants himself with beer in hand as Bill approaches.

WILLIAM
How was Mexico?

MONROE
The cartel insist you to continue to run for them.

WILLIAM
I am only in the game to find closure for who killed my son.

MONROE
We have other obstacles. The police want to bring in the army to clean out the drugs on the island. Lots of undercover operations.

WILLIAM
I lose my only bargaining chip to cut a deal if either interfere.

MONROE
You look after the drop being successful. We are your family. You will never lose us.

INT. CARETAKER’S SUITE - DAY

Joseph looks around and notices a scarce supply of furniture as they enter. An old couch occupies a corner.

A chessboard lies in the middle of the floor. A collection of books rest along the wall. Joseph and Monroe seat themselves at the tiny table.

Candles stuck in bottles decorate as a centerpiece beside a matching pair of incense holders.

William flips a plastic egg crate upside down to join Joseph and Monroe. He opens up the pizza box on the table and they all dig in for a piece of pizza.

The ROAR of a Harley stops outside. A distinctive and contagious loud LAUGH fills the air at about the same high decibel level as the Harley.

BIG AL
Arrrrrrrr aaarrrr rrr (VO)

Large thundering feet hit with each step.

WILLIAM
Door is open Al.

Big Al ducks as he enters the room. He plucks his long beard.

BIG AL
(stutters)
M ... Mo ... Mon ... roe!

Monroe stands and greets Big Al with an amiable handshake. Big Al dwarfs Monroe standing alongside one another. Monroe being of average height. Big Al gives him a huge but friendly bear hug.

BIG AL
(stutters)
You ... lo .. lo.. st we..weight!

MONROE
And you a bit shorter!

INT. CARETAKER’S SUITE - LATER

Empty plates remain on the table. Joseph stumbles on a couple loose floorboards on his way to the washroom.

Monroe gazes at a picture of Mathew on the shelf.

MONROE
You found your son’s medallion?

William stares out the window overlooking the beach.

WILLIAM
Not yet. Reminds me.

Joseph returns from the washroom and sees the medallion.

WILLIAM
Think that belongs to you.

William motions Joseph to the picture on the shelf. Joseph recognizes the chain and hangs it back around his neck.

JOSEPH
Thanks.

Joseph holds the picture and signals.

JOSEPH
You and your son?

WILLIAM
Yes.

JOSEPH
Where is your son now?

WILLIAM
Dead.

Silence fills the room.

JOSEPH
This is Mathew.

Joseph stands admiring the picture.

EXT. BEACH SHORELINE - DAY

Kathy sits inside her kayak and struggles with the paddle to slide herself offshore.

WILLIAM
Hold on.

William lifts the back of the kayak and pushes her into the water.

KATHY
Thank you.

William manages to flash his warmest, possible smile.

WILLIAM
It is beautiful out by the small rock islands. You will see seals and eagles.

William points to the rock islands a couple miles offshore.

KATHY
Thank you again.

She holds her glance towards William.

============================

EXT. PARK CAMPSITE - NIGHT

Kathy sits on the log and watches the fire CRACKLE in the fire pit. A branch breaks.

WILLIAM
Good evening.

William startles her.

WILLIAM
Sorry. Did not mean to scare you. Are you okay?

KATHY
Are you asking because I am a female that is alone and looks vulnerable?

William puts up his hands.

WILLIAM
I give. You want a primitive or a politically correct response?

KATHY
(chuckles)
I will give it some thought.

William turns and strolls down a secluded dirt road of the park.

============================

EXT. PARK NOTICE BOARD - MORNING

Joseph tacks a poster to the bulletin board. Kathy stands behind him.

KATHY
Island Daze?

JOSEPH
The island’s summer fiesta. Young, middle aged, old, they all show up to have a great time dancing, smoking, eating.

KATHY
Smoking?

JOSEPH
Marijuana. It is the island industry. It makes the island go round and round, so to speak!

KATHY
That is illegal!

JOSEPH
Hey, I didn’t say I do it. I just said that is what happens. It is only illegal because the government has not found a way to get their cut.

============================

EXT. MARIJUANA FIELD - EARLY EVENING

Two older teenagers creep through the bush. They crouch and scout the area. Marijuana plants tower over the kids.

FIRST RAIDER has a sack slung over one shoulder and a rifle in his other hand. The SECOND RAIDER skittishly follows as his eyes dart around.

FIRST RAIDER
Fill the bags. Hurry up.

SECOND RAIDER
I feel their eyes.

FIRST RAIDER
Stop being paranoid. Just a little for us.

SECOND RAIDER
Shhhhhh.

FIRST RAIDER
Shut up! All your chatter is making me paranoid. Get the bag open. Hurry up.

The CLICK of a shotgun chamber loading breaks the silence. Shadowy figures step out from the plants and circle the men.

JACQUES
(French accent)
Get their guns bro. Face down on the ground.

SECOND RAIDER
I told you they were out here.

JACQUES
SHUT UP! I hate field raiders.

JACQUES presses the end of the rifle to the back of the second raider’s head.

SECOND RAIDER
Just wanted a little pot.

BANG! Blood lands on the sleeve of the first raider. Jacques crouches down close to the First Raider.

JACQUES
Who else knows? Who knows?

FIRST RAIDER
No one. Honest.

JACQUES
Bon.

Jacques chambers the shotgun again.

BANG!

Jacques stands for a second admiring his work.

JACQUES
Clean up this shit.

ANDRE
Harvest the field tonight?

JACQUES
Yes. Chance they only stumbled on this one. I bet its Bailey’s gang.

========================

EXT. WOODS - NIGHT

The truck stops. Joseph drops to the ground exhausted. Pairs of feet rush alongside the truck to meet William stepping out. Joseph lies on the ground and stares at the feet. Frozen. The feet of the men step away from the truck. Joseph slides over, hidden by the wheel, watches. Larry and Glen confront William.

GLEN
They found your Achilles’ heal William
(pause)
Your son.

GLEN
You are the gangs Achilles’ heal now unless you focus. Your focus is us. Not your son. Us. We will end up like your son.

A stare down ensues until Glen drops his stare. William steps towards them.

WILLIAM
Maybe we’d all be better off if I was dead.

LARRY
Don’t let us die William.
You die, we all die.

GLEN
Wake up dead man.

Augi BARKS wildly from the cabin. Big Al lumbers up to the truck.

BIG AL
Willy, they are coming.

Larry and Glen drop their stare and start towards the cabin. William remains standing alone until approached by Big Al.

BIG AL
(stutters)
You okay Willy?

WILLIAM
You trust me still Big Al?

Big Al puts up his hand. They lock grips. Big Al pulls him into a hug.

BIG AL
(stutters)
Till the end Willy.
Till the end.

=========================

EXT. PARK ROAD - NIGHT

A truck with only park lights on follows William. William steps over to the side of the road with Augi. Jacques leans out the window.

JACQUES
(French accent)
Hey Thos, mind your own fucking business and stay away from our stuff.

WILLIAM
I do not need you disturbing the campers.

JACQUES
(French accent)
No cops to protect you this time. If it wasn’t for your dog beside you, you would not be half the man. Fucking faggot.

WILLIAM
I will tie Augi up.

Three men get out of the truck and charge toward William.

Andre blindsides William with a chain whipped at his body.

Jacques nails William with a swift uppercut sending William to one knee. Jacques stares down in control on William as he takes off the brass knuckles.

Jacques wields a switchblade toward William.

JACQUES
You will end up like your boy.

Jacques lunges and William pulls a knife from his boot.

Jacques stops. Andre swings a chain at William. William ducks and breaks Andre’s kneecap with a kick.

Another French gang member swings a knife as William blocks and pushes him aside.

Jacques attacks head on with a knife.

William blocks Jacques knife.

Jacques drops the knife.

William draws his knife to Jacques throat.

KATHY
STOP!

William’s knife blade clings off the medallion around Jacques’ neck. Jacques in a lusterless look of despair freezes. William’s cold, piercing eyes lock into Jacques.

Jacques releases his stare towards Kathy.

JACQUES
Maybe we listen the lady?

William pushes Jacques away.

Monroe crashes through the bushes with a frying pan in hand.

MONROE
Back off you bastards.

William places his arm around Monroe. Monroe continues to stare down the French gang in all seriousness.

WILLIAM
Thanks for the extra hand buddy.

============================

INT. CARETAKER’S SUITE - NIGHT

Kathy cleans up the slash on William’s face. She takes the pad away from the cut.

KATHY
The bleeding stopped.

WILLIAM
That’s too bad.

Knowing glances flash back and forth.

KATHY
You should go to the doctor to get it stitched up.

WILLIAM
Thanks. I will look after it.

KATHY
I better get back.

She stands.

WILLIAM
Thanks. I didn’t get your name?

KATHY
KATHY. Site 13. Five stars.

She flirtatiously smiles and closes the door on the way out.

INT. ROOM - NIGHT

Andre passes Joseph a joint. Joseph hesitates.

JACQUES
(giggles)
You smoke it. Your brother knew how.

JOSEPH
I’m not my brother.

Joseph passes the joint to Jacques.

JACQUES
(French accent)
You too good for us all of a sudden?

JOSEPH
It’s not all of a sudden.

Jacques tokes, inhaling deeply. He lets out a dry cough. Jacques passes Joseph the joint again.

ANDRE
(French accent)
(raspy, dry voice)
Come on. Try it. It is a good high. I can’t believe you have never tried it.

Joseph hesitates with the joint in hand again. Andre takes the joint back from him and passes it to Jacques. Jacques takes a long drag. Exhales slowly.

JACQUES
I’ve seen you with Bailey.

Joseph sits uncomfortably.

JACQUES
It was his gang that killed your brother. You didn’t know?

Jacques stares at Joseph.

JACQUES
You have chance to gain revenge for your brother. Without him, we will run the entire island.

ANDRE
You join with us and deal. Live the high life. Your mom will be looked after. All problems solved.

Jacques takes out a small baggie from his pocket and dumps a pile of white substance on the table. He takes a razor blade and makes a several lines.

JACQUES
Get rich enough, you can get into this shit.

Jacques sniffs a line.

JACQUES
Tell me what you know of Thos.

Andre takes the straw and sniffs the next line and slides the glass plate back across the coffee table to Jacques.

JOSEPH
I don’t get to try?

JACQUES
This shit is worth more than you and I.
ANDRE
He seems to know the difference.

JACQUES
Runs in the bloodlines. Your brother liked the white stuff.

============================

INT. POLICE HEADQUARTERS

Sergeant Beaupre turns and circles around back of Kathy.

SERGEANT BEAUPRE
We blew the bust, there is no way to set him up unless we know the final drop. I want you to find out.

Silence.

KATHY
I’m not that close. He won’t to tell me.

SERGEANT BEAUPRE
Then you will have no problem of course helping us set him up.
(pause)
Unless you are too close to him.

KATHY
I can’t be part of this.

SERGEANT BEAUPRE
You don’t have a choice Kathy. This is our last chance to get him before he disappears forever.

KATHY
Why not let him go. He is getting out of the business.

SERGEANT BEAUPRE
It’s guaranteed he will make a move during Island Days. You can always outsmart the fox with a good trap and you Kathy are the perfect bait.

KATHY
Yes sir.

=============================

INT. WILLIAM’S CABIN - NIGHT

Police and army personnel rummage through the cabin. William catches sight of his priest’s face, standing in the window. He is wearing a police uniform. He also sees Sergeant O’Shea in behind the priest.

WILLIAM
It’s not the boy. I found our snitch. The one person that knew my every move.

EXT. TUNNEL - NIGHT

William hands the binoculars to Monroe. Monroe sees the priest standing in the window.

MONROE
Smart. An undercover priest. Who would have thought!

Monroe laughs.

MONROE
They got you on that one!

William pulls out a detonator. Monroe stares at him.

MONROE
Do it. Light up the sky Willy.

William grabs the binoculars from Monroe.

WILLIAM
Come on O’Shea, get the hell out.
(pause)
Good.

O’Shea steps out of the cabin and hesitates. He looks directly into the binoculars, then sprints away as fast as possible.

William motions the sign of the cross.

WILLIAM
Forgive me Father.

William pushes a button on the remote control.

The entire cabin EXPLODES. The reflection of the explosion reflects in William’s eyes and on their faces.

WILLIAM
For I have sinned.

Kathy approaches Joseph sitting at a picnic table.

KATHY
I need to contact William. It is a matter of life or death. I love him and I believe I can save him.

JOSEPH
What do you mean? He is dead.

KATHY
We both know he is alive and I am afraid he will go after Monroe. He is consumed by the fire of avenging his son’s death.

JOSEPH
Why would you care. I know you are a cop. He does too.

KATHY
I am not playing cops or robbers anymore. I love William and I truly can not imagine my life without him.

JOSEPH
Monroe thinks he is dead. I do not know where he is right now or if he will ever come back.

KATHY
The authorities are willing to cut a deal if he follows their plan.

Joseph enters William’s suite from the office.

JOSEPH (VO)
Morning William. What’s up for today?

WILLIAM
Did you tell him?

JOSEPH (VO)
What?

WILLIAM
Did you tell him?

Joseph comes into sight. William throws him against the wall.

JOSEPH
I am not sure what ...

WILLIAM
They are not your friends. I am after one thing and no one William get in my way.

JOSEPH
I need the money. I like the thrill.
WILLIAM
You had your one chance. I liked you. You reminded me of my son.

JOSEPH
I don’t have a choice!

William ignores the last comment.

WILLIAM
Clean cut. Always to live the honest life. I admired that in you. The drug life isn’t you.

JOSEPH
Who am I William?

WILLIAM
YOU, have a choice. An eye for an eye is the creed that consumes me.
(pause)
My life is hell on earth. My only path to freedom is death.

JOSEPH
The money, the power, the thrill. I want what you have.

WILLIAM
Ironic. I want what you have - freedom. Freedom from constantly looking over my shoulder. Freedom from worrying about the one fatal mistake that will end it all.

WILLIAM
My life cost my son his. I live with that every day and I will be damned if it will cost you yours.

William chambers his gun

What the?

WILLIAM
Was it worth it?

William attacks and wrestles with Monroe at the water’s edge. William flips Monroe and holds his head underwater.

SCULLY (VO)
Hold it. Let him go.

Scully fires a shot in the air. William turns around to face Scully pointing the gun at them. William releases his choke on Monroe. Monroe crouches over coughing up water.

MONROE
Ironic that you will die on the same beach as your son.

MONROE
Shoot him!

William draws a gun at Scully and pulls the trigger. BANG. Scully lies on the rocks with a bullet wound to his chest.

WILLIAM
You already killed me when you killed Mathew.

Monroe stares at William.

MONROE
You were our lifeline. Without you we would die. But that was of no concern to you. You had plans to leave. We had plans to keep you.

MONROE
Killing your son in front of you was our way of keeping you in the game. It was our survival.

MONROE
Just shoot me and get it over with.

WILLIAM
It’s not that simple.
One last drop. Promise.

Joseph watches William lead Monroe away at gunpoint.
