Paul Thomas Anderson's latest masterpiece, There Will Be Blood follows the story of Daniel Plainview, a ruthless and ambitious oil prospector, who gradually attains the wealth and power that finally leads him to utter isolation.

The film is set in the early 20th century and mostly takes place in California, where Plainview moves to in order to buy parts of this oil-rich land. Carrying his son H.W. around with him at all times, Plainview draws the image of a caring family man and gains the trust of the townspeople while promising them to cultivate their land and improve their town.

Slowly, Plainview faces many struggles and catastrophes that lead him toward a road of intense greed, hatred, and alienation.
