Haiti Now and Prospects
Independent Films, Web Series, Talk Shows, Social Responsibility Movies, Interviews
UN's Dr. David Harland has recently returned from yet another mission to Haiti since the earthquake and speaks with Tom Osborne & Ambassador Muhamed Sacirbey. People are not dying from hunger and situation is stable for now, but the risk is high for unrest as well as an extended period of suffering. Dr. Harland describes an "awful" situation of so many dead, many still buried in collapsed infrastructure, entire generations of nurses to civil servants wiped out,and 30,000 new orphans having lost both parents. The longer term prospects may be bright, but it is a long way to bridge the gap from the "awful" losses still felt today and the promise of Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush for a brighter future. The UN is there having exhibited undeniable resiliency after its worst single day when so many of its own were also lost to the earthquake.
