Birdeye
by Michael Wyshock
Louisiana's Gulf Coast is rapidly disappearing - a football field a minute. Certain species that were not able to live along the coast now thrive while others have become extinct. One contributing factor is changes in the salinity of the water.
In this piece, species that cannot co-exist in the same environment are juxtaposed against one another. This footage was captured on the Barrier Islands which are barely still there but home to bird refuges.
The original piece that this clip comes from was a much longer installation loop (00:12:20) but the files were destroyed in Hurricane Katrina.
