Palace for the Last Laborers
by Franjo Studio

In the summer of 2005, in the inner garden of the Amsterdamse School social housing complex De Dageraad, an art project took place.
The inhabitants were photographed, and their photos were printed on sheets, which they hung from their balconies. The inner garden was transformed into an open air photo museum.

Many former inhabitants came to the exhibition. Some of them shared their memories about the troubled history of these houses.

I enjoyed this short documentary a great deal. Most of us take our homes and our apartments for granted. But behind every room and building there is a history, there is a story to be told. This documentary shows this story. All the hanged pictures show how integrated and diverse our world has become compared to the 20th century but it also shows that people from the WW2 era faced the same problems we do. People both from the past and the present don't want to lose their homes and hold their homes as one of their great valuable assets in life. So this documentary did portray and did get the message across about people valuing their own niches even if it is in the present or was in the past.
