Lutz Heckelmann und sein Bier (Germany 2010, 5min.)

Lutz stores his beer in the forest to save money.

"Lutz Heckelmann and his beer" is a tribute to my dad. My dad is a weirdo. I remember one day he proudly told me about his habit to hide his beer in the forest (to avoid drinking it all at once). And if that wasn't strange enough he told me then how he one day failed to find it. He ended up looking for it for hours and hours like a squirrel (until he finally spotted the plastic bag).

Last winter on my yearly visit to Germany I got bored. I decided I've to shoot something. My dad had a Canon Powershot with video function and was willing to play himself. Hence, we had a story, a camera and the main actor. Two days we ventured out into the forest to shoot. I never lasted longer than two hours. In fact the first day, it was about -17 C, I think I got frostbite... not severe, but my toes were blue!

But it was worth it. Seeing my dad playing himself I find the story hilarious. To be honest, I'm not sure if others will, too... but in this case it doesn't matter. The movie didn't cost a cent and my dad will stay in my memory forever.

1. CU / WS Lutz drives with his bicycle through the forest.
2. WS / CU Lutz stops at the river Aller.
3. CU His basket is full of stuff. He grabs a beer out of the bag and
4. WS / CU enjoys the beer. He packs his stuff and continues his trip.
5. WS Lutz stops at a clearing. He parks his bike. Takes a plastic bag and carries it into the forest.
6. MS (CU Face) He hides the plastic bag beneath dead leaves, however a corner of the bag surfaces as marker. He wants to make sure he’ll find the bag later.
7. WS Happily he returns home.

8. A breeze stirs dead leaves, covering the plastic bag entirely. (Maybe snow falling from a tree.)

9. WS / CU 4x Lutz drives on his bike through the forest (happy, less happy, angry)
10. WS / CU 4x He stops at a clearing. But there’s no plastic bag. He looks around. He tries to spot the bag.
11. WS 8x the forest looks the same everywhere – empty.
12. WS / CU He parks his bike and walks a couple of steps into the forest.
13. WS / CU He walks opposite way. He scratches his head. What to do?
14. WS 2x He gets back onto his bike, turns around and drives back.
15. CU 2x while driving he looks left and right into the forest.
16. WS / CU He arrives at the other tail end of the path and makes a u-turn.
17. WS / CU Lutz sits on a bench and eats a cold can of lentils, unhappy. (CU lentils.)
18. WS Lutz pees.
19. WS / CU at the first clearing: He munches on crisp bread. He forgets to chew. Slowly he moves towards the ray of light (post)
20. WS clouds at the sky (for post)
21. WS a ray of light through the trees and lights up a spot at the ground. (post)
22. CU And there it is! The plastic bag.
23. WS / CU Lutz grubs for the plastic bag, takes 2 bottles of beer and grins.

ORIGINAL GERMAN SHOTLIST:

1. CU / WS Lutz fährt mit seinem Fahrrad durch die Kiefernwälder.

3. CU Sein Fahrradkorb ist voller Zeugs. Er greift sich eine Flasche Bier aus der Tüte und
4. WS / CU geniesst das Bier in der frischen Luft und Lutz packt seine Sachen und fährt weiter.
5. WS Lutz hält auf einer Waldlichtung. Er parkt sein Fahrrad. Nimmt eine der Tüten und trägt sie in den Wald hinein.
6. MS (CU FACE) Er versteckt die Tüte unter ein bisschen Laub. Er passt auf dass der Zipfel der Plastiktüteaus dem Laubhaufen schaut, so dass er seinen Vorrat später finden kann.
7. WS Freudig macht er sich auf nach Haus.

8. Laub weht über die Plastiktüte und verdeckt die Markierung. (Schnee vom Baum fällt drauf oder so)

9. WS / CU 4x Lutz radelt fröhlich durch den Wald. (fröhlich, nicht so fröhlich, ärgerlich)
10. WS / CU 4x Er radelt zu einer Waldlichtung. Aber keine Plastiktüten-Ecke sticht hervor. Er sieht sich um. Vom Fahrrad aus versucht er eine Plastiktüte im Wald zu erspähen
11. WS 8x Der Wald sieht überall gleich aus – leer.
12. WS / CU Parkt sein Fahrrad und macht ein paar Schritte in Richtung Wald.
13. WS / CU Er geht in die andere Richtung. Lutz kratzt sich am Kopf. Was tun?
14. WS 2x Er schwingt sich auf sein Fahrrad und fährt den Weg zurück, den er gekommen ist.
15. CU 2x Dabei guckt er abwechselnd nach links und rechts in den Wald.
16. WS / CU Lutz kommt auf der anderen Seite des Waldpfades an, dreht sein Fahrrad um und fährt wieder zurück.
17. WS / CU Lutz sitzt auf einer Bank und öffnet missmutig eine Dose Linsen, die er anfängt kalt auszulöffeln. (CU Linsen)
18. WS Lutz pinkelt.
19. WS/ CU Lutz steht an der ersten Waldlichtung und mapft an einem Knäckebrot. Lutz vergisst an seinem Knäckebrot zu kauen. Langsam bewegt Lutz sich in Richtung des Lichtstrahls.
20. WS Am Himmel ziehen die Wolken.
21. WS Ein Lichtstrahl windet sich durch die Bäume und fällt auf eine Stelle am Waldboden. Der Lichtstrahl erlischt.
22. CU Und da ist es! Ein Zipfel der Plastiktüte ragt aus dem Laub!
23. WS / CU Lutz wühlt die Plastiktüte frei, nimmt sich 2 Flaschen Bier und grinst über’s ganze Gesicht.
24. WS / CU Lutz sitz auf einer Bank und trinkt glücklich sein Bier / stellt fest, dass Bier ist gefroren
