Logistics - supplying infantry bases with life support, transportation, maintenance and communications-- is “low signature”, which means not spectacular or sexy—but it is vital to the success of any army. Soldiers need to eat, vehicles need to be serviced, the whole complex support structure needs to be maintained.

This support battalion has distinguished itself over the last six months by independently running convoys from the main base in Tarin Kowt to the brigade's more remote infantry patrol bases. In the past these convoys were run entirely by ISAF Forces, or partnered with ISAF forces-- now the Afghans do it themselves.
