NY Saber World Cup 2011 - Velikaya vs Zagunis

This Year the New York Athletics Club had the honor of hosting the New
York World Cup. Amongst the spectacular events, one that stood out was
the women’s sabre final. Russia’s, Sophia Velikaya fenced Mariel
Zagunis, USA, in a nerve-wracking fight for the gold. Although both
are extremely strong fencers, Velikaya was able to dominate the strip
with her swift attacks in preparation and an equally strong defense.
Ending the bout with a score of fifteen to six, Velikaya took home the
gold medal.
