Srebrenica Genocide United Nations Commemoration

"Srebrenica is Genocide" even as some UN Security Council members tried to redefine the murders as merely "massacre." Secretary General Ban ki Moon, President of UN General Assembly Dr. Ali Abdussalam Treki, current Bosnia & Herzegovina Ambassador Ivan Barbalic and Deputy Mirsada Colakovic adress diplomatic guests representing most UN member states as well as other guests, including former BiH Foreign Minister and UN Permanent Representative Ambassador Muhamed "mo" Sacirbey. The effort by some to redefine Srebrenica Genocide as "massacre" was inconsistent with the rulings of UN sister institutions including the International Court of Justice and the ICTY, (International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia). Secretary General Ban ki Moon also noted the positive contributions that Bosnia & Herzegovina was now making to the work of the United Nations but also recalled the words of former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan: the genocide of "Srebrenica will forever haunt the United Nations."
