Survivor Island
Independent Films, Travel, Global Warming
The pacific island of Tuvalu has declared a state of emergency due to severe water shortages in parts of the country.
The drought stricken country, which is located between Australia and Hawaii, has reported that it will run out of water by tomorrow (4 Oct). The country, built on nine coral atolls, is also threatened by the rising sea levels.
Tuvalu’s Prime Minister Willy Telavi, while addressing the United Nations General Assembly on 24 September this year, called climate change “a security issue, which threatens our survival.”
Over a decade ago, the country’s leaders had asked neighbouring Australia and New Zealand to accept Tuvalu’s residents if their survival is threatened and evacuation becomes a necessity.
