Yes, we use the Paypal service, and do not record your credit card information.

How can I upload my films on Film Annex?

  1. Log in to your Film Annex account.
  2. Choose "upload" from the dropdown welcome menu
  3. Fill out the upload form
  4. Choose the "Trailer" or the "Full-length movie" option.
  5. Choose the file you want to upload.

We accept most formats, but like .mp4 and .mov files the best.
Codec: H.264/AAC.
Frame rate: "Current" is best; 30 fps for USA, Canada, and Japan; 25 fps for the rest of the world.
Data rate: 1000 kbits/sec (SD), 2000 kbits/sec (HD).
Resolution: 640x480 (SD), 1280x720 (HD).
Deinterlacing: Yes (if shot in DV format).
Audio: 320 kbps/44.100 kHz.
Very important: Please make sure that your file is optimized for streaming and your output field is set to progressive.

I can't see the movie I just bought. What can I do?

Here at Film Annex we support open source and strongly advise using VideoLAN Media Player.

VLC is a free and open source cross-platform multimedia player and framework that plays most multimedia files as well as DVD, Audio CD, VCD, and various streaming protocols.

How can I watch the films on Film Annex directly on my TV?

Here is an example - TV: Sharp Aquos, Computer: Macbook Pro.

The TV has an HDMI port (video only) and RCA ports (audio).  The computer has a DVI port (video) and a Mini Plug port for audio. 

You can easily purchase the cables and connect the two.

1 cable: HDMI to FVI (video), one Y cable with 2 RCA plugs and 1 Mini Plug (audio).

What is the movie format supported by Film Annex?

We accept most formats such as Quicktime movie, Mpeg-4, Flash, WMV, AVI, etc.  However we do recommend H.264/MPEG-4 or H.264 Quicktime files for a high-quality viewing experience.

How to Curate and Generate Revenues on Your Web TV.

Every registered user gets a free Web TV channel on Film Annex that they can curate and generate revenues on. Our user-friendly design enables you to add movies and blog posts to your channels, making them personal and interactive.

How to Locate Your Web TV

When you're logged into your Film Annex account, you'll most likely be on our homepage. Click on the green drop-down welcome menu on the right hand corner of the page and choose "MyPage." You will see a blue button next to your profile that will take you to your Web TV.

How to Curate Your Web TV

To start curating your Web TV, browse our Open Film Library., also located in the green drop-down welcome menu. You can add a movie to your channel by clicking on the "Add this movie to my Web TV" button. If you want to pick a movie that is not in our Open Film Library, you can do it by clicking the same "add" button and requesting the permission of the filmmaker who owns the movie. Once the filmmaker accepts your request, the film will appear on your channel. Films from the Open Film Library will appear in your channel instantly.

How to Add Blog Posts to Your Web TV

In addition to your movie selection, every blog post you write on your Film Annex profile will appear on your Web TV channel. When you are on "MyPage," click on the "New blog post" button to write a new blog. Add pictures, videos, etc. to make your post more interactive.

Revenue Share

The revenue share on all Film Annex Web TVs is 50/50, meaning you will receive 50% of the revenues generated on your channel every month. There is a revenue graph located on your "MyPage" that will show you your revenue stats. In addition, you can click on the "go to the revenues page" button right below the graph for more details. Once you have a minimum of $200 earning, you can request payment.

How to Manage the Channels on your Web TV

To add a public domain movie to your channel:

  1. Visit our Public Domain Film Page
  2. Select a movie by clicking on one of the thumbnails
  3. Click on the "Add this movie to my Web TV" button on the right hand side of the page. You will be directed to your Web TV administration and see the message, "Operation successful! Now you can host the requested movie on your Web TV(s)"
  4. If you have more than one Web TV channel, select the one you want to add the movie to by clicking on the channel name in the right hand column
  5. Now the film's thumbnail will appear in the middle column, titled, "Web TV Movies"
  6. Check your Web TV channel in 30 minutes to see the updates

To add a non-public domain movie to your channel:

  1. Find the movie you want to add to your channel
  2. Click on the "Add this movie to my Web TV" button on the right hand side of the page. Your request will be sent to the filmmaker through the Film Annex messaging system.
  3. You will be notified when the filmmaker approves your request. You can check your email or Film Annex inbox or see if your request was approved.
  4. The approved video will be added to your "My Movies" column on the "Admin Your Web TVs" page.
  5. Click on the movie's thumbnail to add it to your channel on the "Admin Your Web TVs" page.

How to feature 3 videos on your Web TV Channel

You can select up to 3 videos to feature on your Web TV channel. These videos will appear on the top of the page the same way they do on http://www.filmannex.com. This section is called "the spotlight".

  1. Log-in to your profile
  2. Click on the welcome menu
  3. Choose "Admin Your Web TVs"
  4. Click on the Web TV name
  5. Choose "spotlight" on the lefthand side and select up to 3 movies

How to promote your Web TV using Facebook

To add a public domain movie to your channel:

  1. Create a Facebook page for your Web TV, Keep the description brief and add your WEB TV link
  2. Invite friends to 'like' your page and encourage them to suggest your page to their friends
  3. Use your page to post links to your videos. Engage your audience with interesting questions and ask them to comment on your films/videos.
  4. Create a Facebook Ad for your Web TV's FB page.
  5. Go to "Ads and Pages" when you're logged into your FB account and click on "Create an Ad."

How to increase Web TV traffic and revenues

To add a public domain movie to your channel:

  1. Promote your Web TV on third-party sites and social networks. You can use Facebook, Twitter, Google +1, Delicious, Digg, Tumblr, and any other social media tool out there that enables you to share content. If you have a Facebook and Twitter page, make sure you link back to your Web TV channel, so your audience knows where your content is.
  2. Upload content on a regular basis. Whether you have shorts, features, backstage footage, or interviews, make sure you update your channel regularly to keep your audience up to date. Give them a reason to check back on your channel. If you don't have a lot of video content, you can always use your blog and photo gallery to let your fans know about your artistic endeavors. Another thing you can do is to take a look at our Open Film Library and see if there are any movies on there that you'd like to share on your channel.
  3. We have a ton of good stuff on there including classic films by Chaplin, Keaton, Welles, and more.
  4. Create viral videos, representing your work and link back to your channel. You can upload these virals on other video platforms such as YouTube and share it with your friends on social networks.
