Director: Robert Zemeckis
Genre: Adventure | Drama
Cast: Tom Hanks as Chuck Noland
Helen Hunt as Kelly Frears
Running time: 143 minutes
Plot: Chuck Noland,a Fedex systems analyst, leaves his family in the middle of a feast on Christmas due to a business call. While flying over the Pacific Ocean, the company's Fedex Jet violently crashes into the ocean. Saved by his inflatable life craft , Chuck finds himself washed up on an uninhabited island the next day. Here he spends the next four years in complete isolation except his best friend Wilson, a volleyball. One day he finds a part of a portable toilet washed up on the rocky shore. Using the tiolet as a sail, Chuck sets out to escape the island. After numerous days on the ocean and losing his best friend, dehydrated Chuck is spotted by a cargo ship. Upon returning to the states, Chuck finds out that his girlfriend has already married and has a daughter. As he delivers a package he saved from the island, he finds himself looking at four directions and unable to chose one. And so ends Chuck's story of Cast Away.
Review: Cast Away is a riveting story of persistence and hope. Almost all of us has said "I wish I was stuck on an island" in one point of our lives. But Cast Away shows the true meaning of this social deprivation. While stranded at the island, Chuck had to fight the elements and also had stay sane. His perseverance shows us, humans what we are capable of and that truly "no man is an island." A must see for those looking for inspiration and hope.
