2008-06-03 20:00:03
Ovation TV staff were lucky to attend the 3rd annual Culver City Artwalk on Saturday, May 31st. This yearly event allows for 40+ galleries to open their doors to the public all day and features many emerging and distinguished artists. For more information on this event visit the Culver City website in the Arts and Culture section. The first gallery we visited was Project:Gallery on Washington Blvd. This space featured a new exhibit Insider Trading, a group show of all the artists the gallery currently represents: Edwin Ushiro, Nate Frizzell, Tessar Lo, Yoskay Yamamoto, Rebecca Urias, Scott Belcastro, Ogi and more. The gallery was nice enough to invite us the sneak preview just a few hours before the artwalk complete with pastries and mimosas!
"Four" at Corey Helford Gallery was not to be missed. On view from May 5th - June 21st are the impressive works of four emerging artists: Jason Shawn Alexander, Melissa Forman, Sarah Folkman, Karen Hsiao and special guest artist, Miso.
"She Who Holds The Power Of Death" by Melissa Forman This is certainly a gallery to watch as they are well on their way to being one of the most popular places to catch rising stars. Check out their website for a great collection of work from past shows or better yet go there! The gallery director, Richard Scarry he was very nice and gave us a grand tour including artists from past shows like: Buff Monster, Chris Anthony, Van Arno, Blinky, etc and we have to mention the Heroes and Villains series of portraits by Tatiana Wills & Roman Cho. Tell them Ovation TV sent you, you won't be disappointed. And last but not least, one of the best shows of the day was at the Cardwell/Jimmerson Contemporary Art Gallery and their Colorblind exhibit, May 31st - June 31st. The photo exhibit was amazing, artist Robert Hite has some of the most striking images we've ever seen. We didn't take a picture because they were behind glass but I highly encourage everyone to go see and buy for themselves. Also, on display was this huge painting by Connor Everts called "The Altar" which was a standout piece. (blackAndWhitePainting.jpg) Then later on after several glasses of wine we wandered into Lab 101 and saw artist Jacob Arden McClure's pieces on the wall. You may have noticed he has also been seen on our homepage and on My Art. He is getting to be a real favorite around here!

Since we couldn't possibly write about all the galleries in this blog, be sure to visit their websites. A complete list is available at the Culver City website (mentioned at the top). Images of the artwork we captured at the Artwalk are posted in the LA Group and on our profile. We have images from the following galleries not discussed in the blog:
