Blog - Miami Says No to Ink Fountain

In the New York Magazine online, this short blurb describes the city of Miami's fear of ink stained patrons at the upcoming Art Basel. The artist, Cooper insists on only using real, thick black ink in his roman style "Dark Fountain" installation to illustrate the state of the environment. Only problem is, what if the wind blows?
On one hand, who would want to be stained on their way to an art show? On the other hand, aren't there some other precautions the city could take to ensure the art is preserved the way the artists intended and no one gets stained? What about a plexi glass shield about 4 feet high in a square around the fountain? What about a rope and some signage? How far can ink travel in the wind? Who has the time to figure this out?
What are your thoughts?
