Below are the estimates from the North American box office this past weekend:
1. The Day the Earth Stood Still $31,000,000
2. Four Christmases $13,270,000
3. Twilight $8,013,000
4. Bolt $7,506,000
5. Australia $4,285,000
6. Quantum Of Solace $3,800,000 -
7. Nothing Like the Holidays $3,500,000
8. Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa $3,250,000
9. Milk $2,636,000
10. Transporter 3 $2,250,000
The big new opener this weekend is THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL which took in an estimated 31 million over the weekend. Keanu Reeves is still the box office draw, and his connection to another sci-fi extravaganza seems to have worked well for opening weekend, although the poor reviews may affect its long term performance.
The only other new opener this weekened is NOTHING LIKE THE HOLIDAYS which only took in an estimated 3.5 million. The remaining films were all holdovers from the previous weekend.
The US Box Office took in an estimated total of 83.3 million for the whole of the weekend 12-14 December 2008.
