The North American Box Office bounced back this Friday, doubling its total take from last Friday's low performance. There were a couple of new films that opened, with some of the returning films continuing to chug along at a decent pace.

In top spot is the Coen brothers film, BURN AFTER READING which opened with 6.5 million. The film distributed by Focus Features, costing only 37 million to make despite having big stars Brad Pitt and George Clooney, should find a decent return this weekend and looks to be a money-maker.

Tyler Perry's new film THE FAMILY THAT PREYS opened in second with 6.4 million. This guy doesn't stop, being a virtual formulaic money-making machine with an audience that keeps on coming. Expect to see more.

The third teaming of Al Pacino and Robert De Niro RIGHTEOUS KILL opened in third to a relatively small 5.8 million. The novelty of seeing these two actors on screen just isn't there any more and this film will have to work hard to return its 60 million budget.

Perhaps on a better note, Dianne English's film THE WOMEN opened to 3.7 million but only cost 16 million to make. The films stars a number of female stars including Meg Ryan, Annette Bening, Eva Mendes, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Bette Midler and Carrie Fisher.

The remainder of the top 10 this week is rounded out by the returning films. Of note, TROPIC THUNDER has returned its budget, now reaching 100 million. The film pulled in 1.25 million on Friday. THE HOUSE BUNNY has shown a tidy profit, taking in another 1.3 million for a total of 39 million. This year's box office champion, THE DARK KNIGHT may be coming to the end of its run but is still building its mammoth total. It took in 1.12 million on Friday and has grossed a huge 514.8 million. Nicolas Cage's BANGKOK DANGEROUS will disappear entirely soon, only earning 10% of its audience from last weekend, bringing its cumulative total to 10 million.

The North American box office in total took in 28 million for the whole of Friday 12th September 2008.
