NEW YORK, December 30, 2009 – Continuing its commitment to support independent filmmakers, Film Annex, an online film distribution platform and Web TV Network, launches The War of Films, a monthly online film contest to help filmmakers with the promotion and advertising of their films by increasing their interaction with their fans, followers, and the film community at large. The film that gets the highest number of votes on Film Annex’s platform at the end of the month will be the winner of the $1000 cash award. Film Annex will also reward the most active voter with $100 (US, Canada, and UK only) at the end of each month.
“Usually, independent filmmakers use one hundred percent of their budget and energy on the production of their film, and once they are done with the production, they realize that they have neither the relationships nor the financing to secure their P&A (Promotion & Advertising),” says Francesco Rulli, the president of Film Annex. The War of Films will be the perfect gadget to encourage filmmakers to promote their films to their friends, followers, and the film industry. The $1000 will go to the most popular film, so the filmmakers who do their best to advertise their films will have a better chance at winning. In addition, we will give $100 (US, Canada, and UK only) to the viewer who casts the highest number of votes within a month. This way we will also be rewarding user participation.”
The Film Annex team has recently placed a voting bar on top of their player with a plus (+) and a minus (-) sign attached to it. Viewers can vote once a day for or against a film to support the filmmakers of their choice. The total number of votes will be visible to all viewers at all times, and the films with the highest number of votes will be featured on Film Annex’s homepage. This will not only drive more attention to the films gaining popularity on Film Annex’s platform, but also bring more views to the filmmakers’ pages, potentially increasing the revenues they generate through film sales and advertising. Moreover, viewers can go directly to http://www.waroffilms.com to watch the most popular films and vote on their favorites.
In addition to paying the filmmakers on its network 100% of the revenues generated from their film sales and 50% of the revenues generated from the video ads on their Web TVs, Film Annex creates an active and ongoing collaboration between the filmmakers and their viewers by implementing a voting system on its platform. With the War of Films, Film Annex intends not only to encourage and increase the amount of time and energy filmmakers put into the distribution of their films, but also increase viewer participation and create an active film community on the web.
