There is almost as many people in the United States who are without medical insurance coverage. The free market system generally works best, but to be able to buy food for the kids or medical insurance implies that you should be able to afford it. Something is not right with the American Dream if the Promise of America comes with a premium out of reach for so many, even those working. It is not a "Black" and "White" divide, although such a rationalization for poverty would probably satisfy too many stereotype inclined fellow Americans. More Americans live under the poverty line than for most of the last three decades. “Job creators” may or may not be discouraged to create jobs by lower taxes, and then the question is what kind of jobs, with what pay and benefits. The argument that we should not raise taxes on anyone may or may not be accurate, but the fundamental starting point has to be if an American works, he/she should be able to afford the “bare essentials”, not the cosmetic but the real thing.
