Venice, “Bicycle thieves” back to life
2008-08-20 02:27:18
A restored version of “Bicycle thieves” (1948), Vittorio De Sica’s masterpiece, will be presented during next Venice Film Festival. The original reels of film were deteriorated, but now they have been saved and their contents have been digitized.
The project for restoration, promoted by the “Amici di Vittorio De Sica” association and sponsored by Venice Casino, is intended as a tribute to the Italian director. The film was restored and digitized and now, 60 years after its first release, it’s ready to be shown again during an important festival.
The “Amici di Vittorio De Sica” association has already restored other works by the Italian director, like “Umberto D.”, “Miracolo a Milano”, “Il tetto” and “I bambini ci guardano”. These films will probably be digitized soon. A similar procedure is followed by Warner Bros technical operations team too.
