Neuroscientists at New York University are using movies to study the brain and to understand how a film controls the experience of viewers. Their work, described by LiveScience, could change how filmmakers create movies, making it possible to know whether a soundtrack or a dialogue is good or not.
NYU researchers examined how people's brains lit up while watching certain movie scenes while lying inside a brain scanning device. They found that only some visual sequences have a high level of control over our brains.
Thanks to this studies, in the future Hollywood could know whether a film sequence captures the viewer's attention, whether it emotionally engages the viewer and whether viewers will remember what they saw a day or week later; and directors could consequently change films before their release…
