Former United States (US) Ambassador Grover Joseph Rees and Professor Robert George of Princeton spoke to the press about the San Jose Articles which assert the rights of the unborn child in international law.
Also addressing the press today (6 Oct) at United Nations (UN) headquarters, Austin Ruse from the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute explained that the articles, which were drafted by a group of international experts, refutes the claim that “there is a new international right to abortion.”
Ruse added that the UN Special Rapporteur on health issued a report claiming the international right to abortion and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights had also “endorsed the idea.”
Speaking after Ruse, Professor George added that “there is no more fundamental human right than the right to life.”
According to the Catholic and Family Rights Institute, the articles were a year in the making including a two-day negotiating session in San Jose, Costa Rica in March. Altogether 29 experts helped draft and sign the document.
