Syria-Now on Agenda/Security Council

UN Secretary General spoke of the "very troubling" situation in Syria. More to the point though, Syria has now reached the formal agenda of the UN Security Council, with several countries pressing for action while apparently at least Russia and China resist.

“The situation in Syria has been very troubling. I have been discussing this matter with many world leaders, including President [Bashar Al-] Assad of Syria twice at least. During my briefing to the Security Council this afternoon Libya and Syria were prominently discussed and I believe even now members of the Security Council are still discussing this matter. I’ll have Under-Secretary-General Lynn Pascoe to brief in more detail to the members of the Security Council tomorrow to help members of the Security Council to better address and discuss this matter. I sincerely hope that the leadership of Syria will really take this situation very, very seriously and listen to the real genuine aspiration of people.”
