In this serial, Dick Tracy fights against the villain, Spider and his Spider Ring. While in the process of destroying San Francisco’s Bay Bridge, the Spider kidnaps Dick Tracy’s brother Gordon. Dr. Moloch, who is the Spider’s yes-man, performs a brain surgery on Gordon in order to turn him into a malicious man and make him join the Spider Ring. This way, the Spider tries to turn the two brothers against each other.

Produced by Republic Pictures, directed by Alan James and Ray Taylor, and starring Ralph Byrd, the series portrays the adventures of the clever, blunt, and fast police detective Dick Tracy.

The serial was praised for its human quality and moments of real emotional drama, paying homage to the original comic strip by Chester Gould. Dick Tracy was said to be one of the first examples of police procedural mystery story and maintains its popularity even today.
