Bosnia(BiH)/Presidency UN Security Council-Foreign Minister Alkalaj Conversation
Web Series, Talk Shows, Interviews
Bosnia & Herzegovina assumes Presidency of UN Security Council for January 2011. Foreign Minister Sven Alkalaj speaks with Ambassador Muhamed Sacirbey from UNTV at New York HQ. The month is filled with challenges even unusually many for the UN Security Council, Sudan and referendum, Haiti, Ivory Coast and others, which are all coming to greater focus. Ironically, as Foreign Minister Alkalaj has overseen BiH's membership in the UN Security Council, (term till end of December of 2011), 10 years earlier during term of Ambassador Muhamed Sacirbey, Bosnia & Herzegovina was nominated as candidate for this non-permanent seat (one 1 of 10 elected on 15 seat UN Security Council, the UN's most powerful body responsible most directly for addressing threats to "international peace and security"). What have been implications for BiH's global standing as well as internal political dynamics? What can BiH bring to the debates particularly as relates to pace building?
