Vulcan Baru National Park in Panama and La Montanona Conservation Area in El Salvador are one of the eleven projects in fifteen areas that are part of environment conservation partnership between the Government of Spain and the UNEP (United Nations Environment Program).

As most other projects, this also has multiple and mutually supportive benefits including preserving biodiversity and the ecosystem, mitigating climate change and providing income for local populations (rather than unsustainable over-utilization).
