Island of Mozambique has been a meeting place of cultures and empires bringing people together from Asia, Europe and Africa. The Island is off the North Coast of Mozambique making it accessible by sea from various directions and valuable for trade.
With the support of UNESCO, an extensive rehabilitation project was carried out on the Island of Mozambique. The restoration of the Fortress of San Sebastian aimed not only at the sustainable conservation of the fortress, but also at revitalizing the island.
