Mob Kill UN Workers-Afghanistan

The killing of UN workers in northern Afghanistan by a mob purportedly infiltrated by Taliban insurgents regardless of any provocation is inexcusable and inexplicable. The burning of a Koran by an American Christian preacher in Florida on its own would have been an embarrassment to our American ideal of tolerance and pluralism. However, the murder of these innocent UN workers is a shame for all of us who identify as Muslims.

UN Secretary General Statement: “I have just received word from our mission in Afghanistan, UNAMA, that there has been an attack on our operations centre in Mazar-i-Sharif in the north of the country. My Special Representative Staffan de Mistura is on his way there. The details are not completely clear but I can confirm, sadly, that UN personnel have been killed. This was an outrageous and cowardly attack which cannot be justified under any circumstances and I condemn in the strongest possible terms. I extend my condolences to those killed or wounded and their families.”
