New ICC Prosecutor

Ms. Fatou Bensouda was formally elected by the Assembly of State Parties meeting NYC at UNHQ to replace the departing International Criminal Court Prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo. Ms. Bensouda will assume a long list of ongoing-pending cases. Also, she may be called upon to prosecute elements of the Syrian (Assad) regime) if the UN Security Council refers the matter to the ICC.
Ms. Bensouda, who is married and from Gambia by origin, establishes some precedents: first woman, first African, first from Muslim majority country and child from a polygamous marriage.
