The US stock/equity markets collapsed by almost 10% in a matter of minutes, a drop so rapid and frightening that many believed had to be a result of some mistake, especially since presumed safeguards and technology were supposed to prevent this. However, it appears that technology may have contributed to the chaos, and we still can not figure out the cause. However, the reality that this momentary drop most hurt the ordinary investor has shaken confidence. Further, this may be another proof of a system gone rogue, free markets transforming to predatory capitalism.
