The United Nations and its UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization)are commemorating 40 years (1972 to 2012) of the World Heritage Convention.
The World Heritage Convention is the most ratified international treaty for cultural and natural heritage preservation in the world. This year, on its 40th anniversary, the World Heritage Convention celebrates sustainable development and the role of local communities.
