The series opens with the Earth being destroyed by a fatal plague called the Purple Death. Flash Gordon’s companion Dr. Alexis Zarkov suspects that the plague is an evildoing of Ming the Merciless. Flash, Zarkov, and Dale Arden make a trip to planet Mongo to find the cause of the plague.
