Diary Of A Provincial Girl (vida De Menina)
Independent Films, Film Profiles
The director of Carmen Miranda: Bananas Is My Business returns with this adaptation of a classic Brazilian novel/diary written in the late 1800s that documents the coming of age not only of its young heroine, but of her country. This tale of an awkward adolescent becoming a strong-willed woman imagines a period in Brazilian history when the country had just abolished slavery, proclaimed a fledgling republic, and when frowning realists and starry-eyed dreamers alike looked toward the dawn of a new century. Winner of the Audience Award at the 2004 Rio de Janeiro Film Festival.
