More information at http://www.unep.org/wed/ about the "Challenge," but it's about "Who can rally more
people to take action
on world environment
day to plant a new forest.
Act now!"
Led by the United Nations Environment Programme, and celebrated annually on 5 June, World Environment Day is one of the principal vehicles through which the UN stimulates worldwide awareness and encourages political attention and action on environmental issues. WED 2011, in support of the UN International Year of Forests (IYF), is aimed to be the biggest, most widely celebrated global day for positive action on behalf of the environment and will be hosted this year by India.
Through WED, UN enables people not only to realize their individual responsibility, but also their power to become agents for change in support of sustainable and equitable development. Last year, activity registration resulted in over $100,000 in contributions to gorilla protection in the host country, Rwanda. For WED 2011, we hope to surpass this with the planting of a new forest.
