"Hadith" (saying/traditions) of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessings of Allah be Up On him)

The Prophet of Allah stressed at more than one place, he has layed stress on Muslims that they should always be good to their mothers. He emphasized more to the side of mother than to the father. At one occasion he said: “The paradise is under the feet of mothers. There are some traditions of the Holy Prophet also which have been reported by different companions of our prophet (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

Hazrati Mughirah-Bini-Shu-abah, “the prophet of Allah said: God has prohibited the man to annoy and disobey his mother, and forbade him not kill his daughter when she is still a young girl…….”

Here, the word mother alone has been used because to show that she has more right on her children than the father has on them. And this does not mean that he has been given the permission to torture his father, one should rather respect his/her father like one’s mother, because in the Holy Book of Allah the word parent has been used mostly to be respected (which means both father and mother) and man has been prohibited to annoy any one of his parents. This annoyance and torture is in the way as he disobies his parents with their commandment or prohibition from anything which is not against teachings of Islam. He should do everything to please his mother first and then his father. He should be good to both of them but as we observe, can see that it is the mother who has the first right to be respected and cared. He must give them everything if they ask him or like so. If a person does something to some one other than his parent which if accounted as the venial sin (Saghiera), would be accounted as mortal or (kabeirah) against the parents.

So from all these teachings, one should be very careful about them, otherwise he may have lots of mortal sins while he himself does not know anything about it, and the punishment for the capital crime will be capital and a hard one on the day of judgement.

At another occasion, the “Holy Prophet” emphasizes very strictly and advice all the Muslims. The “Hadith” saying of the Holy Prophet has been reported by “Hazrate Abdullah-Bini-Umar-Bini-Ass. According to “Him”, the messenger of “Allah” said: “Allah Almighty will be pleased whenever the parents of (one’s) are pleased (with their children) and he will be angry while the parents are angry (with their sons). Narrated in the book of “Termidy”.

What do we get to understand from this “Hadith”, is very clear and obvious. We learn that the parrent’s pleasure and satisfaction with their children is obligatory on every Muslim male or female and is prohibited to make them angry, because Allah will be angry also while the parents are angry with their children.

There is another saying (Hadith) of the Holy Prophet which has been reported by “Abu-Dawood from the narration of Abi-said: That a man from “Yaman” migrated towards “Rasulullah” messenger to Allah, Muhammad (Peace and Blessings of Allah be Upon Him) and said: “O messenger of Allah! I have migrated to you! The “Holy Prophet” said: Have you any relatives there in “Yaman”? He said; O yes, my parents. The Holy prophet asked him that have you taken permission from them. He said: No, the “Holy Prophet said: Go back and take permission from them. If they permitted you, come back and participate in “Jihad” (with your other brothers in Islam), otherwise, go serve them and be kind to them”.

From these saying of the “Holy Prophet” and traditions of Him we can easily understand that after the obedience of “Allah Almighty” and his messenger Muhammad (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him), a Muslim’s obligation is to obey one’s parents. One should avoid all those things which make them unhappy and should try to do anything to please them.

Mother has other rights in Islam also. She has the right of inheritance, and is inherited in the property left by her son. If her son dies and leaves some property, she is inherited in that.

“(….. And sixth is to every one of his parents from the property left by him (the son), if ther is a son left by him and his parent have inherited him (in the property left by him), then 3rd (out of the property left by him) for his mother, after payment of the things according to the last will of him or paying his debt”. (4:11).
