 I’m sure we have all heard the sex sells expression at least a dozen times in our lives, it’s nothing new but the foundation remains true and recently for women too. Except women of today, primarily in the Western hemisphere and most European countries are exposing their desires in a slightly different way.

 Selling sex targeted toward women is increasingly becoming popular for a multitude of industries. According to Forbes magazine, there are in fact five major industries that have turned the tables, selling sex to women.


The list includes MOVIES as we can recall the recent Hollywood hit, Magic Mike, with male strippers galore and a shirtless Channing Tatum. The next in line is print as we can all recall E.L. James’ BDSM fantasy series, 50 Shades of Grey.

 Following these are MUSIC, PHARMACEUTICALS and surprisingly HOTELS. Music videos including Nicki Minaj’s hit Super Bass are increasingly showing more half-naked men.

 Also, The New York Times reported women are increasingly searching for over the counter sexual remedies, in search of the next female Viagra. In terms of hotels, well many are adapting to the fantasies in 50 Shades of Grey, making it a reality for guests as long as you can dish out a whopping $2,000 a night for the room, of course.

 We all know that sex sells. But we’ve primarily associated the expression when targeting products or services toward men with women toting flawless skin, bare bottoms in sexually desirable positions plastered across magazines and TV screens.

But men aren’t the only one’s who subdue in buying a product from an image that screams ‘SEX’; women are just as likely to buy a product when confronted with a bare bottom male flaunting his masculinity and lack of clothing in sexually desirable positions as well.

 Women in the modern world are becoming more and more open in terms of their sexuality. They no longer fear being ‘true’ to themselves and their carnal nature. Although this statement does not encompass all women since the stereotype that women should not be as sexual as men persists.


Nonetheless, women are no longer hiding behind the curtain, and industries across the globe have clearly noticed. So the age-old advertising method still holds true, sex sells, only this time its for women too.
