Tom Cruise Back On Top -- "Oblivion" Opens With $38.2 Million

"Oblivion" gives Tom Cruise one of his biggest weekend openers. The sci-fi film sold $38.2 million worth of box office tickets. Overseas, "Oblivion" sold $33.7 million for a worldwide total of $150.2 million.   ("Oblivion" movie review)

Previous weekend's box-office champ, "42," slipped to No. 2 with $18 million. The Jackie Robinson flick starring Harrison Ford has raised its domestic total to $54.1 million. 

The indie favorite, "The Place Beyond the Pines," starring Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper added more theaters and went up to No. 6 with $4.7 million.

Here's the estimated Top 10 Box-Office Films for weekend of April 19:

1. "Oblivion," $38.2 million ($33.7 million international).

2. "42," $18 million.

3. "The Croods," $9.5 million ($23.4 million international).

4. "Scary Movie 5," $6.3 million ($3.5 million international).

5. "G.I. Joe: Retaliation," $5.8 million ($40 million international).

6. "The Place Beyond the Pines," $4.7 million.

7. "Olympus Has Fallen," $4.5 million ($7.8 million international).

8. "Evil Dead," $4.1 million ($2.3 million international).

9. "Jurassic Park" in 3-D, $4 million ($420,000 international).

10. "Oz the Great and Powerful," $3 million ($1.5 million international).
